History of Unity Church of God

Unity was founded in 1998 with 63 charter members. Our first location was a store-front facility in which we shared space with a local-access cable television station.

In September 1999, the congregation moved into it's first new facility on Sunset Boulevard. This building included a sanctuary with seating for 400, a large social with a full-sized kitchen, a nursery and plenty of Sunday School rooms. However, it was only a couple of years before the rapidly-growing congregation was filling up the sanctuary on a regular basis. Meanwhile, a f ull-sized gymnasium was built, which included another full-sized kitchen and more educational rooms.

As soon as the gymnasium was complete, all eyes were again focused on the sanctuary, in which overflow crowds were the norm. Plans immediately began for a massive 30,000 square foot facility, which would include a sanctuary that would eventually seat 1,500, and two floors of educational and meeting rooms. In early 2004, ground breaking took place on what is now the centerpiece of Unity - the new building. The sanctuary's original seating was 1,000, but when growth demanded it, the balcony was opened, expanding the capacity to 1,500. The new sanctuary includes state-of-the-art sound and lighting, as well as a recording studio. The Unity Performing Arts Academy also is housed in the building.

With the new building being the location of worship services, the "old" sanctuary was turned over to Alien Nation Youth Ministries and hosts the Wednesday evening youth services, as well as occasional youth rallies.
